The Black Roses

A dozen black roses in a vase — layered petals, green stems, three stages of opening from bud to full bloom.
In the language of flowers, the black rose is not a refusal of love so much as a darker register of it: mystery, farewell and return, a fascination that does not ask to be sweet. Twelve is still the romantic standard — the same considered dozen most people give — only played in a key most bouquets will not. It is romantic without being excessive; it is simply unwilling to be pale.

Design Details

Twelve stems, each built as a stage of the same rose: tight bud, half bloom, and a fully opened head. Matte black petals sit against green leaves so the bouquet reads as a full dozen, not a single cut flower.
Adjustable stems and movable leaves let it sit in a vase as a finished bouquet rather than a locked sculpture. Layered petals keep the piece full from different angles.

In the Room
