Description
The Skull, the Red Roses
A bone-white skull claimed by deep crimson roses — a still life built around the tension between romance and mortality.
Inspired by classic gothic imagery, the design brings together two familiar symbols: the skull as a reminder of what remains, and roses as a trace of warmth within the dark.
Together they create a gothic tableau that feels less like decoration and more like a scene with a story waiting to be interpreted.
Design Details
Every element is built to create contrast — pale bone against deep crimson, a little green only to set off the red, roses sitting in and on the skull so the two cannot be read apart.
The composition is designed as a complete still life rather than flowers added after the fact, giving the finished piece the presence of a small gothic sculpture.
In the Room
Designed to stand out on a bookshelf, desk, mantel, or display cabinet. Pair it with books, candles, or other dark objects, or let the crimson and bone stand alone.
Daylight shows the roses; low light shows the skull. Once it is placed, the red does the work — a compact scene that holds the room without asking for a season.
The Build
A longer build: about 5–7 hours, easily split over more than one night. Stop when you want; the next session starts where you left the bags. The time in your hands is the point as much as the finished piece.
